Sounds dramatic. It is true in a way. Those who know me well, know that I love to play guitar. I bought a guitar in 2000, just after beginning college. Prior to this, I had used a borrowed classical guitar - primarily to learn on. It was with me through out college and into the seminary - and it treated me well. Originally, when packing to come to Rome, I was going to leave my guitar at home so that my sister could learn how to play. After two months here, I realized how much I missed playing music. Thanks be to God, we have a family friend who flies for one of the big air freight companies. He was very generous and arranged the guitar to be shipped as a carry-on - and thereby arrived in Rome during the week of Thanksgiving. Since then we have has some good times together. I has been a few good weeks. But this morning, tragedy struck. While the guitar was in its case, the case tipped over and fell, while inside the neck of the guitar cracked. This is beyond repair - so the end of an era with this guitar. I had hoped that she would last just a few more years - so i could leave her with someone at the college when I leave. But - it is the ‘end of an era.’

I received at least one email daily - where the person promises to pray for me during finals. I’m flattered by this but these prayers come a little too soon. I know the back in the states everyone is coming up on the end of the semester before the Christmas break. Unfortunately, I will not be taking first semester finals for another 2 months. I didn’t begin classes until the middle of October - so our finals do not begin until February. For all of those taking finals out there now - you are in my prayers. Please hold your prayers for me until February. I think they do it this way so we are able to enter into Lent - the time of repentance much better. Blessings to all.
